SLC WEEK 8

 ¡Hola todos!

This week has definitely been better. It's not so cold. We are having a ton of fun in the new trio. We have someone on date to be baptized this next Sunday. And we found someone new to start teaching!

We were able to go again to temple Square. We brought Mafe, who should be getting baptized this week, and Robert a member of our ward. We went to the conference center and walked around the SLC temple. We also went to the family history center there and we helped them set up some of their family trees. They are super excited to take family names to the temple for the first time!

For Halloween we had to stay inside all night after 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. This is because a lot of people in Utah like to dress up as missionaries so we didn't get to go trick or treating. Instead we had an activity with our zone and we watched the movie Coco and played some sports at the church building.

Friday I had a funny experience. We felt we needed to go knock this door that we hadn't in a while and when we did this guy named Eduardo answered. He's from Venezuela and he kinda has some big eyes and I swear he never blinks. I couldn't tell if he was joking about being interested because his eyes were so intently staring or if he legitimately just was staring into our souls. But anyway we talked to him for a bit and he let us in to learn more. We shared the restoration with him and at the end he started asking us about missionary work. We talked about how we have to wake up at 6:30 every morning and that kind of stuff. He then asked how long we've learned Spanish for. My companion Elder Atilano is a native speaker and Elder Boone said he had about 4ish months. And I asked him how long he thought I had and he said at least 8 months. When I told him I had about 2 months, his eyes almost popped out of his face. He was so astonished and I didn't think his eyes could get any bigger. He couldn't believe it. I testified of the power of prayer and how God has helped me learn the language fast to help people like him learn the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. We had a lesson with him again the next day and he kept asking me a few times during the lesson if I understood everything. And to be honest I did and he was so blown away how I could learn the a lot of the language in less than 2 months. Especially since he has lived here for 6 months and only knows the words "5 minute break, lunch, and go home" haha

I also was able to see some of my cousins who live up here in Utah! They brought us some treats which tasted so good and it was so fun to see them here!

Overall Utah is great and lots of things in the works. I have seen the hand of the Lord in my life every single day. Especially with learning the language. God is in the details of the details of the details of our lives, you just have to watch for it. I love the work and the all the latinos we get to meet!

Love,
Elder Randall
